American Signs
2009

This idea for a postcard booklet of American Signs springs from multiple trips traveling throughout the United States by car. There is something remarkably American about the signage found on the side of the road or in rural areas adorning restaurants, broadcasting the existence of small camp–grounds, and offering respite in hotsprings. Without an overrought designed environment in these less-populous areas, people in need of communicating make their own banners, marquees, and signs based on the prevailing sensibilities of the area. What occurs is usually beautiful, often inspiring.

After years of living, these signs fall prey to water, wind, sun, and snow — essential age, themselves, adding more personality. In ode to these sings The Night Game has constructed a hand-made postcard booklet comprised of the best homegrown signage we have seen in the past few years. Each postcard measures 5 inches by three and a half inches, and comes with a tear–out perforation making detachment easier.
